Letter from the Walk Chair
Greetings to all North Bay Walkers!
We are all looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, October 24th at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts just north of Santa Rosa. We're very excited to share this new venue with you. Parking will be a snap and we still get to walk past some grape vines wearing their gorgeous fall colors.
Be sure to look for our signs advertizing the Walk on Rte. 101, 37 and 116. And beginning October 1st, check out Clo the Cow's new companion on the Clover-Stornetta half gallon milk cartons! Better yet, purchase the best milk made in Sonoma County!
Be sure to read our blog, JDRF Talk, and follow us on Twitter @JDRFBayArea for the latest news in the type 1 diabetes community.
Looking for sample fundraising letters, tips from other teams, and other resources? Visit the new Walk website cureType1.org/walk for all this and more.
See you on the 24th!
Liz Peer,
North Bay Walk Chair

RIP City Riders BBQ
The RIP City Riders are donating the proceeds from the raffle of a 2009 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide motorcycle to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. On Sunday, October 18th, they are inviting JDRF families to attend a BBQ at the Penngrove Park in downtown Penngrove. The winning ticket will be drawn and a check will be presented to JDRF at the BBQ. Here are the details:

Walk Sponsors & Supporters
We all know the economy is in a slump, which makes it's more difficult than ever to get corporations and businesses to pony up cash for charities. Even our die-hard supporters are cutting back on their financial support.
If a business makes a donation of $500 or above to your team, they are eligible to receive corporate sponsorship recognition at the Walk. This can be a big selling point in asking for those big donations!
Please contact or at 707-494-5931 for more information about corporate sponsorship recognition.
Also, check out the Fundraising Skill Builder page on the new Walk website: www.curetype1.org/walk/skill-building.html. This page has great tips and strategies for asking for donations in even the toughest economic climate.
School Teams
Have you considered inviting students from your child's school to join your team or form a Walk team at the North Bay Walk? School teams are oodles of fun and help to educate students about type 1 diabetes and the need for a cure.
Join the Walk Committee
It is not too late to join the Walk committee! We need volunteers to make phone calls, hang posters and visit schools. There is also a need for volunteers on the day of the Walk to help with registration, accounting, the Wine Tasting and with logistics.
Contact for details.
What a Cure Means to You
We want to know what a cure means to you. No more blood checks? No more shots? Throwing your insulin pump in the ocean?
Your answers will be posted on our local JDRF chapter's blog and Facebook page. We'll include a link to your walk team fundraising page so that people who read your thoughts can make online donations.
If you want to take part, send an e-mail to elinks@jdrf.org with this info:
Photograph (walk team or person)
Name of participant
Age of participant
Connection to type 1 (if applicable, age of diagnosis)
Walk team name
In 100 words or less, "What will a cure for diabetes mean to you?"
We're eager to hear your thoughts!
